Healthcare Tourism Congress 2010

This congress will eventuate over a duration of 2 days comprising of conference and exhibition. Conference sessions will be divided into plenary sessions as well as various streams.

Conference Structure
The conference contains 4 plenary sessions and 2 con-current streams each day; with 3 sessions each stream.
 
Leading medical industry figures and experts representing leading organizations will share invaluable experience and insights within the healthcare industry. Selected sessions will also incorporate case studies to further add value to the sessions.
 
The plenary sessions focus on a wider perspective of healthcare tourism:
  • Current trends in healthcare tourism
    This session highlights issues pertaining current trend of this industry and how well the health and tourism industry are co-operating to create a positive impact on the healthcare tourism’s growth.  
  • Healthcare Tourism – the Government’s Role
    What is the government’s role in nurturing and promoting the nation’s healthcare tourism industry? Other areas such as framework and guidelines toward creating a successful healthcare tourism industry will be highlighted in this session.
  • Healthcare Tourism Strategies
    This session highlights the winning strategies of a successful healthcare tourism.
  • Leveraging e-Health to Promote Patient Services
    This session discusses the importance of technology and how far advanced the service providers are in terms of web-based healthcare towards promoting patient services within the healthcare industry.
  • Quality Standards & Accreditation
    This session discusses internationally recognised standards which improve healthcare quality, patient safety and also infection control.  
  • Coping with “Medical Inflation”
    Medical industry is said to be recession-proof. How far is this true? With the current economic downturn and widespread of new diseases, drug companies are always on the lookout for new drugs and anti-virals. Are these affected by the recent recession? Medical treatment is also said to be expensive; but how are the insurance companies reacting to this during this time?  
  • Medico-Legal Aspects of Healthcare Tourism
    This session discusses multitude issues related to medical records including content and function, documentation principles, ownership, retention and destruction of medical records.
  • Stem-Cell Medical Tourism - Are We Prepared?
    This session looks at one of the advancements in the medical indsutry, Stem-Cell. The discussion includes understanding ethics concerning the use of stem cell, regulatory hurdles and its contribution towards promoting medical tourism.
 
The four streams highlight various subject matters within the healthcare tourism industry:
 
Stream 1–Healthcare Tourism Marketing
New marketing strategies, based on emerging targeted customers must be developed to capitalise this globally competitive industry. Therefore, this stream highlights initiatives and efforts taken in promoting and marketing this industry.
 
Stream 2 – Healthcare Tourism Management
Apart from providing world-class healthcare services, patients must also be guaranteed of quality and safer healthcare. The first session of this stream discusses lean principles in this industry.
 
The second session emphasizes Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Healthcare industry also contributes to the well-being of its community by developing successful CSR strategies to achieve sustainable competitive advantage.
 
Clinical Risk Management, the final session of Stream 2, emphasises on identifying circumstances that put patients at risk of harm; and measures taken to prevent or control those risks.
 
Stream 3 - Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T&CM) and Wellness
TCM, Ayurvedic and Wellness and Spa Travel are gaining popularity whereby patients have wider options in seeking treatment which not necessarily involve medications. Besides western medication, patients also have various options of seeking treatment and rejuvenating. This, of course, includes travelling for wellness, spa and also treatment in the form of ayurvedic.
 
This stream focuses on the importance and major role played by alternative medicine in the healthcare tourism industry.
 
Stream 4 – Strategic Partnerships: Provider, Payer, Facilitator, Consumer
Sessions in this stream will focus on strategic partnerships among the service providers, payers, facilitators and consumers; with medical tourism insurance as one of its main concern within the healthcare industry.
 
These sessions will provide insight into how strategically partnering with one another will create a win-win situation among all parties involved.
 
Whilst plenary sessions are compulsory, delegates have the option to select and attend one stream, each day, which best suits them.
